CBTSeminary releases Inaugural Academic Journal

Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the publication of the inaugural volume of our new academic journal. The Covenant Baptist Theological Journal (CBTJ) advances informed biblical and theological scholarship with a pastoral heart, to the glory of God and with the support of the church, within a Reformed Baptist Confessional framework. The CBTJ publishes peer-reviewed articles in biblical studies, theology, church history, exegesis, apologetics, and related disciplines from a Reformed Baptist confessional perspective. Inaugural Issue: Volume 1, September 2026

The inaugural issue of the Covenant Baptist Theological Journal brings together biblical study, historical theology, and pastoral reflection from a confessional Reformed Baptist perspective.[1] Its six articles address questions that matter to the church: how we assess the text of Scripture, how we interpret it, what it reveals about the Son of God, and how its teaching shapes our life together.

Timothy L. Decker proposes a confessional methodology for New Testament textual criticism, while Jared Ebert explores William Tyndale’s methods of biblical interpretation. Drew N. Grumbles makes the case for identifying Wisdom in Proverbs 8:22–31 with the Son of God, drawing closely on the Hebrew text.

Turning to the church’s order and history, Joshua Henson examines accusations against elders and pastoral integrity through 1 Timothy 5:19–25. Jon English Lee considers church unity in the writings of Basil of Caesarea, and R. Austin McCormick draws lessons from the marriage and correspondence of Samuel and Sarah Pearce.

The issue concludes with John William Crawford’s review of Robert Purnell’s A Body of Doctrinal and Practical Divinity from 1657.

For pastors, theological students, and thoughtful church members, this first volume offers substantial reading that brings scholarly inquiry into conversation with Christian doctrine, ministry and devotion.
